The Role
The Software Engineering team is a central part of Javelin that delivers and maintains the trading and risk management software systems. The role is like a Front Office Developer role at an investment bank or hedge fund. The team’s mandate also extends to the various logistical, financing and operational activities relating to our businesses.
The role will be based in Singapore, and you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues from across the globe and be involved in the development of new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications and systems that facilitate commodities trading activities, including risk management, and market data processing.
- Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code (primarily Python 3).
- Work closely with traders and quantitative analysts to understand trading strategies and requirements.
- Ensure data integrity, performance optimization, and efficient data retrieval for analytics and reporting.
- Comfortable in leading projects, tracking progress, and ensuring timely delivery.
- Provide in person support for the Singapore Trading, Sales and Logistics teams.

- 3+ years of commercial back end or full-stack development in any language.
- Software development experience in a commodity trading firm, oil and gas major, shipping and logistics firm, investment bank, investment management firm, fintech, or other relevant firm involving trading and/or supply chain management.
- Knowledge of physical commodity products and their trade lifecycle, not limited to coal, base metals, oil, gas and emissions, will be helpful.
- Software development experience in Python will be helpful.
