Seeking a highly motivated Media Relations Officer with at least 2+ years of relevant experience in PR (in-house or agency) and/or journalism.
Working directly with the Head of Strategic Planning & Communications and occasionally with the Head of Marketing, you will spearhead our in-house media relations efforts and occasionally facilitate project-based partnerships with external agencies and other partners in our key markets (including Singapore, Australia, and the US).
Key responsibilities
This Media Relations Officer will be responsible for managing the day-to-day media relationship such as responding to requests for information, brand establishment, and more. This person will also be acting as the organization’s key media contact point, and as a liaison between the organization, press, customers, external agencies, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities may also include the following:
- Facilitating media coverage and/or reviews of the brand’s products, via both active and reactive pitching;
- Responding to and facilitating media and partner requests for information, creative assets, interviews, affiliate support, etc;
- Creating, organising, and fact-checking/copy-checking media and PR materials such as articles and press releases;
- Engaging in ongoing relationship-building with journalists, media platforms, and the like to support marketing and public relations efforts;
- Engaging in regular media monitoring and ensuring that the excellent name and reputation of the brand are maintained, including crisis management if required;
- Reporting on in-house and external projects to internal stakeholders and providing analysis and recommendations;
- Proposing and executing other projects and strategies to improve the organization’s brand;
- Actively participate in offline events to promote company presence and drive brand awareness;
- Contribute to business development and marketing activities to support organizational growth and customer acquisition.
Skills we’re looking for
Our ideal Media Relations Officer would have the following experience and skill sets:
- Up-to-date industry knowledge and experience
- Deep familiarity with the journalism/media industry and landscape;
- Willingness to learn and keep up with the latest industry trends, especially digital media trends and practices e.g. the use of affiliate links, media databases and communities such as Meltwater and HARO, etc;
- Experience with international media and/or PR landscapes (including Australia, the US, or the UK) strongly preferred;
- Warm industry contacts preferred;
- Some knowledge or experience of e-commerce basics such as SEO and understanding of most popular digital traffic channels a bonus
2. Language skills
- Flawless written and very strong spoken English;
- Polished yet versatile writing style with a good eye and ear for detail;
- Experience with writing and in structural, line-, and copy-editing – you’ll be expected to do a fair bit of copywriting and editing;
- Ability to follow (and help develop) the brand voice and the brand’s written style guide;
3. Communications and relationship management skills
- Ability to connect with journalists and other external contacts and partners from all over the world;
- Ability to communicate with tact and nuance and with the brand’s best interests in mind, including in delicate or crisis situations;
- Strategic thinking
- Ability to comprehend the organization’s top-level business, branding, and marketing strategy; adapt to changes and understand nuances in strategy; and translate said strategy to relevant media and PR projects and efforts

- Willingness to take on new types of projects and try out new ideas – we’re a startup, so flexibility and the ability to function in a dynamic, fast-paced, interdisciplinary, and high-VUCA environment is required
5. Initiative and organization
- Self-starter; able to start, run, and finish your own projects independently and successfully
- Highly organized; able to juggle multiple objectives and initiatives at the same time;
6. Digital literacy
- Ability to adapt to remote work software and practices – we’re a remote-first startup, so you’ll need to get familiar with Slack and Zoom etiquette and working on G Suite, Smartsheet, Notion, etc
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or any relevant field
- Strong command of the English language
- Strong communication skills
- Outgoing or equipped with people skills or soft skills that will help with networking with stakeholders, journalists, and more
- Highly motivated, passionate, results-oriented
- Adaptable
- Highly organized
