Job Description Summary
The Shipping Team Lead is expected drive both department and business objectives by ensuring the timely distribution of finished goods, work in process and required materials to end customers, distribution centers and internal customers with a high degree of quality. The position is expected to lead by example and maintain team productivity. The person is required to schedule and train other technicians on the Shipping processes in-line with department standard operating procedures and work instructions. The associate will assign daily tasks as necessary by wisely using existing capacity to keep up the overall productivity. The person must be an expert in the field so he/she can handle various challenges within distribution. The associate is involved in the review of new processes to distribute products, the review of new routes and or freight forwarders and the overall improvement of distribution. The Team Lead should understand the overall business objectives as it pertains to the department and work cross-functionally on resource allocation or issue resolution to reduce risks in order to meet customer demand. The person will report directly to the immediate supervisor and provide input for performance evaluation of the direct team members, performing associate 1on1’s, creating and managing associate individual impact goals and driving overall department key objectives. The person will be involved in the hiring process for future employees. The person is required to have good problem-solving skills and expected to instruct the team members on troubleshooting and communicate with the team to minimize the impact to business when issues are encountered. The associate will be expected to create and maintain departmental metrics and be able to speak to them as required. The position will support and participate in continuous improvement projects as identified by the Executive Steering Committee and assigned by the manager.
This position must meet all requirements of the Shipping Associate I, II and III positions.

Job Overview

Material inventory management and accountability
Develop and maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly metrics as required.
Create and maintain associate individual impact goals that drive associate development while meeting overall business objectives.
Responsible for employee training within assigned areas to include training and reviewing SOP’s.
Meet daily/weekly/monthly departmental production objectives efficiently and effectively with a high degree of quality.
Must have ability to independently organize individual schedule to meet departmental goals.
Must have the ability to work with no instruction on routine tasks and general instructions on new tasks.
Support departmental shipping supplies and material management function including storing, retrieving and staging supplies/materials as required.
Support and participate in daily shift start up meetings and LDMS.
Support Continuous Improvement and Process Improvement projects.
Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds unassisted.
Ability to navigate the business quality system. Log Quality Notifications and submit systematic changes as required.
Ability to clearly document processes and change documented processes as required.
Understand and input logistics data, as required, in the SAP system and/or other Resource database system(s).
Ability to pull data from the SAP system and/or other Resource database system(s) for manipulation and analysis.
Must have strong, clear communication skills to effectively communicate associate and/or department needs to management or other production groups.
This associate may be provided with Hazmat training to include general awareness, function specific, security awareness, security plan and safety training.
Follow all department guidelines and procedures.
Must demonstrate a “can do” attitude and willingness to work in a team environment.
Follows BD Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures. Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area. Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.

Education and Experience:
Highschool Diploma / GED
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
Advanced computer skills
Ability to perform intermediate math calculations.
Minimum 5 years of experience in materials distribution, logistics/inventory management, or manufacturing operations.
IATA and DOT regulation knowledge preferred.
Knowledge of Inventory and WMS, including shipment processing of International and Domestic carriers.
Minimum 2 years of people leadership including coaching, development, and collaboration.
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks.
Self-motivated, must have ability to work with minimal supervision.
Effective written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment:
Work environment encompassing warehouse facilities, including cold storage area.
